Garmin 64ST Features

What is GLONASS?

GLONASS is an acronym for the satellite GLObal NAvigation System and a response from Russia to the US GPS development (Global Position System). GLONASS has a network of 31 satellites around the world and 24 satellites covering the earth, but it has no definite benefit over GPS. While the GLONASS network has less satellites, a more reliable reading and features like rotational navigation, real-time traffic and more are still possible. The coverage is not as good as GPS, which gives you greater precision and coverage when you use a GLONASS along with a GPS.

GLONASS Receiver

This instrument features a Russian receptor form that works fantastically in canyon-like environments and northern latitudes. In other situations too, GLONASS may be used, but does not have the best results. If you are looking for a trusted GPS, it’s worth considering, but people looking for an interesting unit may be interested. In Canyon-like conditions and latitudes to the north, the unit is very well operable.

Battery Life

The 64ST does not have a battery that is rechargeable. This means that you have to bring your own 2 AA batteries. I’d suggest recharging batteries to have very short life on the 64ST. For the device in harsh outdoor conditions, adequate battery life is an important requirement. When it comes to GPSMAP 64st capacity, purchasers have two choices.

You can either use two regular AA batteries or purchase a battery pack that could last a long time. If the battery pack is to be charged, buyers just have to connect the GPS unit to an AC adaptor, or USB cable, connected to a computer. It must not be taken off the device.

Display

A 2.6″ color screen with a resolution of 160 x 240 is shown on the 64ST. It is 1.43″ wide and 2.16″ high. There is no touch screen that means that all navigation is done by the buttons below the screen. Functions best under wet/snow. Some customers have complained that the show does not suit their requirements and tastes. It doesn’t blast anyway or substitute for GPS navigation for your cellphone, but it is robust and accurate. In comparison with the other models that we found during our thorough testing, the GPSMAP 64st may be a little smaller. The model has a2.6″ color screen that can be read by sunlight. It can be difficult to read what is on the display which can be an issue with very detailed topographical maps.

Easy to use

Physical buttons are one of the most practical for walking, cycling and hunting sports. Both buttons can be pushed easily and the machine can be operated very easily. Yes, it takes much more time than the Garmin 600 in terms of waypoints and co-ordinates, but the GPS touch screen is far more accurate and the screen is much more robust.

The gap is very small and thanks to the GLONASS and GPS combination receiver the pinpoint is easy to locate your positions. The heat is good and the screen is easy to read during the sun at midday. The well-spaced and clearly marked buttons enable you to use it without your cold weather gloves. It is much simpler than a touchscreen to join pathways.

Maps

Garmin GPSMAP 64st has a worldwide map relief foundation and a BirdsEye Satellite Imagery 1-year subscription. Purchasers are able to upload all the maps they want using the 4 GB onboard memory and the microSD card slate. The transition method is extremely user friendly and can be easily identified with a lot of online help if you need it.

With aMicroSD card in the battery slot the 4GB internal memory can be extended to allow 24K and 100K of the TOPO maps to be downloaded. It is completely compatible with Garmin Custom Maps, which allows users the ability to download electronic and paper maps on their own device. It comes with a built-in global base map and a 1 year Birdseye Satellite Imaging free subscription.

Weight

For backpackers, weight is extremely significant. One of the reasons why most people want to use their phone for GPS navigation is that they already have it to carry so they do not have to carry any extra weight.

The 64ST is really lightweight, fortunately. This unit weighs just 8.1 ounces, including 2 AA batteries. You’ll be hard pressed to find a dedicated GPS device that weighs much less than that.

Performance

In terms of results, we assessed this particular feature with praise and claim that the model is amazingly accurate in most customer reviews. The model’s loading time has surpassed most buyers’ expectations of this solution.
